The Mayor's Awards for Excellent in the Arts are presented every two years. Those nominated for an award must have demonstrated distinguished service, creative accomplishment, a record of publication, presentation, or research that enhances the artistic, historic, and broader life of the City of Boise. The awards began in 1986 and over 70 people and organizations have been honored since its inception.

Star considers it an honor that her work as a costume designer is appreciated and recognized by her community.
